Some notes

  • After head coach Andy Reid’s press conference, there weren’t many surprises when the Chiefs’ first official injury report came out ahead of the team’s Week 7 game against the San Francisco 49ers. Reid had updates on eight players, including the three players who did not practice: left guard Joe Thuney (ankle), defensive end Mike Danna (calf) and cornerback Rashad Fenton (hamstring).
  • From Reid’s tone, it sounded like Thuney and Danna’s misses were more precautionary rest days – whereas it sounds like Fenton is in danger of missing his second straight game.
  • It was a positive for the Chiefs to see rookie safety Bryan Cook (concussion) back on the field in limited fashion after he missed Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills.
  • The 49ers have been dealing with multiple injuries, especially on the defensive side of the ball. San Francisco missing seven defensive starters was one of the major factors in last week’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
  • They are actually tracking better this week, despite old friend CB Charvarius Ward (groin), and right tackle Mike McGlinchey (calf) having to leave Week 6’s game early. Neither Ward or McGlinchey practiced for the 49ers on Wednesday. Also missing were defensive tackle Arik Armstead (foot / ankle), defensive end Samson Ebukam (achilles) and safety Talanoa Hufanga (concussion).
  • The two names to watch are that of left tackle Trent Williams (ankle) – who hasn’t played since Week 3 – and defensive end Nick Bosa (groin), who missed Week 6 with his injury. Both players would be huge additions for San Francisco. On Wednesday, head coach Kyle Shanahan said that both players were feeling “a lot better than last week” – but both were limited in practice. So were defensive end Drake Jackson (knee) and safety Jimmie Ward (hand).
